How frustrating is it when you try to search the Internet for things in your local area only to receive search results from all over the world? When you register as a personal member with SoWhat'sLocal you tell us what town or suburb you are in and also provide information about yourself and what you're into - music, sport, eating out, whatever.
 
From then on, every time you interact with SoWhat'sLocal via this website or via your mobile phone, we will only provide information on the things you are in to and only things that are in your local area (unless you specify otherwise). 

SMS Alerts*

With SoWhat'sLocal, you don't even have to go looking for things to do - we'll notify you automatically! Register for SMS alerts to receive automatic SMS notification about the things that interest you. Here are a few examples of how SMS Alerts may work for you:  

• My favourite shoe shop is having a sale - SMS Alert*

If you're the kind of person that needs to know what is going on right now, then you need SMS Request!

Simply send an SMS with a word describing what you want to do and we will send you a return SMS with a few options tailored to your personal profile and in your local area.   

• SMS "Pub" and we will SMS you back with the details of nearby pubs that match your profile. If there is live music, happy hour or any other event listed that matches your profile, then you can be sure these will be the first ones on the list.^
• SMS "Child Friendly" and we will SMS you back with the details of child friendly activites in your local area.^
• SMS "Movie" and we will SMS you with the details of the movies showing at your local cinema.^

Business Directory

We built SoWhat'sLocal to drive community involvment by providing easy access to information about what's going on in the local area.

We succeeded in doing this but we also ended up with a powerful and easy to use business directory that can be searched from anywhere using a standard mobile phone and SMS messaging.

Real Time information

SoWhat'sLocal doesn't search the Internet, we provide you with information direct from our own databases. Because businesses and individuals can add, change and delete their own details in real time via this website - you will always have access to current information.

Community

One of our core values is to encourage people to engage more in their Local Communities. We support this goal in a number of ways:

Local Information
When you register as a member of SoWhat'sLocal, you will automatically become a member of your local SoWhat'sLocal community. When you search SoWhat'sLocal for events or businesses you will only find those in your local community (unless you specify a different location).

Voting and Blogs
Whilst you will be able to view what is going on in other communities, you will only be able to participate in the votes and blogs in your own community.

Supporting Local Charities
Local Charities and Not for Profit organisations do amazing work within local communities. We provide them with completely free access to SoWhat'sLocal in order to promote the great work that they do and also to provide them with additional funding via our profit sharing scheme.

Profit Share
We provide a share of the profits generated by your use of SoWhat'sLocal to the charity or not for profit organisation of your choice. When you register, simply select the local charity or not for profit organisation that you would like to support and a share of the profits generated by your use of the system will be returned to your chosen organisation. You can even choose to share your contribution as carbon credits that will be issued in green initiatives - contribute as you go!!!

Proactive feedback

We provide a simple, pro-active rating service that allows you to give constructive feedback to businesses and event organisers. This lets you have your say but more importantly you can see what others have to say so you can make a more informed decision.
