Who are we?
SoWhat'sLocal Pty Ltd is an Australian company based in Melbourne, Victoria. Founded in 2008, SoWhat'sLocal is one of the first truly interactive, real-time websites that integrates with SMS.
We are a young organisation with a motivated team working hard to bring you up to the minute information about what is happening in your local area.
What do we do?
The Internet is a wonderful resource full of interesting information. The trouble is, there is so much information it is becoming increasingly hard to find what you want.
SoWhat'sLocal has segregated the whole world into small communities so that every time you search SoWhat'sLocal, you will only find local information about local businesses and local events that are in your own local community.
SoWhat'sLocal provides the means for business owners, local government representatives and charitable organisations to publicise their organisation, events and promotions to visitors as well as residents of their area.
Personal users of SoWhat'sLocal can find up to the minute information about what is happening in their local area by visiting www.sowhatslocal.com or by sending a SMS* and receiving a SMS* reply.
Our Mission
SoWhat'sLocal's mission is to encourage local community involvement through the provision of easy to access information about what is going on in a local community. The information provided may be personalised to members based on their registered personal preferences and presented on a simple web page or as a SMS* text message.

Community Focus
Our mission is to encourage people to engage more in their Local Communities, we have several measures in place to support this goal:
Local Information
When you register as a member of SoWhat'sLocal, you will automatically become a member of your local SoWhat'sLocal community. When you search SoWhat'sLocal for events or businesses, by default you will only find those in your local community.
Voting and Blogs
Whilst you will be able to view what is going on in other communities, you will only be able to participate in the votes and blogs in your own community.
Supporting Local Charities
Local Charities and Not for Profit organisations do amazing work within local communities. We provide them with completely free access to SoWhat'sLocal in order to promote the great work that they do and also allow eligible organisations to join our profit sharing scheme.
Profit Share
We provide a share of the profits generated by your use of SoWhat'sLocal to the eligible charity or not for profit organisation of your choice. When you register, simply select the local charity or not for profit organisation that you would like to support and a share of the profits generated by your use of the system will be returned to your chosen organisation. You can even choose to share your contribution as carbon credits that will be issued in green initiatives - contribute as you go!!!
